Kim Tae Hee: a super star in people’s hearts

{ 04:14, 2008-Jul-3 } { Posted in Celebrity news, stars, and profiles } { 0 comments } { Link }

Rising “Korean Wave” or Hallyu stars have been gaining popularity in their home country and international borders. They not only gave name to their Korean counterparts, but expanded their rising fame and status in countries like Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Philippines, and in the US. Since the exports of Korean dramas abroad, many drama fans are now piquing on their favorite Korean actors and actresses; such as “Dae Jang Geum” star actress Lee Young Ae, “Winter Sonata” actor Bae Young Joon, and actors of “Stairway to Heaven” who are Choi Ji Woo and Kwon Sang Woo.

Because of the overwhelming success of the Korean Wave, many Korean actors, actresses, and singers are hoping to join the ranks of these big stars someday. One of them is the beautiful Korean actress, Kim Tae Hee.

Kim Tae Hee was born in March 29, 1980, in the city of Ulsan. She graduated at Seoul National University, gaining a bachelor degree of Arts in fashion design; and also holds a degree in medical science from the same prestigious school. This actress stands 165 cm, carrying the blood type, “O.” She also shares the same blood relation with Lee Wan, another rising actor.

Kim started her career as a model, showing her face in three music videos: “Letter” by K-pop group G.O.D. back in 2002, “Only” by singer The Jun in 2003, and then ballad singer Park Yong-Ha’s music video, “Don’t Go Away.”

After gaining exposure from music videos, Kim shifted her career in acting. Her first leading role was her portrayal as the evil step sister Han Yoo Ri in the hit drama series, Stairway to Heaven. After the drama achieved much success, other projects came pouring in for her.

This talented actress also did TV projects such as “Forbidden Kingdom,” acting alongside Jun Jin from the boyband group Shin Hwa; and “Lovers in Harvard” with co-star, Kim Rae Won.

In 2006, Kim was also featured in a Korean movie called “The Restless,” together with another top Korean actor, Jung Woo-sung. Sadly, this movie was not well received by movie goers and critics. However, this did not diminish Kim’s popularity in the Korean movie industry.

Aside from being an actress, she also had her share in doing community service. Not only she gave a scholarship grant to a student, but she also became an ambassador for the Make A Wish Foundation, which caters to children who have cancer and leukemia.

Kim Tae Hee may not be one of the Hallyu hopeful stars in the century, but she sure has proven her worth as one of most well-sought actresses in their country. Through her talent in acting and overwhelming kindness, she can move people’s hearts through her emotions.

Getting shush-shush over a Taiwanese drama "Silence"

{ 07:26, 2008-Mar-22 } { Posted in Dramas, Sitcoms, and Movies } { 0 comments } { Link }
Yes... the title says it all!!! The Taiwanese-drama based love story Silence is one drama that you don't want to miss. Well I never missed one episode, so you might as well do the same.

The story revolves around two people, a guy named Wei Yi and a Korean-Taiwanese girl Zhao Shen Shen, who was mute because of an accident. They crossed paths with each in the hospital when they were still kids. The two became separated after their one-week encounter and never saw each after that. Years later, they met once again by fate.

Both lead characters are portrayed by Vic Zhou and Park Eun-hye, with supporting roles by other Taiwanese stars Andy Hui, Megan Lai Ya Yan, Jin Yu Lan, and William So.

This love story would surely captivate you with some twists of drama and a bit of comedy. This drama series have twenty episodes, so better check this one at your favorite online streaming video sites like Crunchyroll or My Soju.

So what are you waiting for? Sit back... relax... and enjoy a quiet time with Silence.

J-drama lovers get a good laugh over Hana Kimi

{ 11:20, 2007-Sep-23 } { Posted in Dramas, Sitcoms, and Movies } { 1 comments } { Link }
Since I am still in a J-drama mode, I might as well post something about my other must-see series. One of the most funnies J-drama series that I've been currently watching is Hana Kimi or "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e".

Here's an info about the drama:

                                                                              The Cast!
The drama is based on the popular manga of the same name by Nakajo Hisaya, which has already been dramatized in Taiwan. Horikita plays the protagonist Ashiya Mizuki, a Japanese girl in the U.S. who one day sees the young athlete SanoIzumi (Oguri) compete in the high jump on television. She begins to idolize him, and decides to move to Japan to attend the same school as him. However, Izumi goes to an all-boys school, so Mizuki disguises herself as a boy to achieve her dream of being with her idol - Tokyograph
I could list tons of reasons why I like this series. But I'll just have to name three: its wacky, the storyline is  downright funny, and I'm totally digging hot guys! Haha!

Seriously, you won't regret watching this one. Take my word for it :)

Getting teary-eyed over a J-drama hit 1 Litre of Tears

{ 11:01, 2007-Sep-23 } { Posted in Dramas, Sitcoms, and Movies } { 1 comments } { Link }
Yes, you are right. I am getting hooked with this old J-Drama called 1 Litre of Tears. And they are not kidding all right: you actually get loads of tears by just watching it. I was curious about this drama so I decided to give it a chance and after watching the first episode, I had tears streaming down my face. Really, I am serious.

Just to get you curious, here's a bit of the info about the drama:

                      The Ikeuchi Family
1 Litre of Tears (1リットルの涙 Ichi Rittoru no Namida?) (also called A Diary with Tears or A Diary of Tears) is a Japanese television drama for Fuji Television about a girl who was diagnosed with an incurable degenerative disease at 15, but was able to continue her life until her death at the age of 25.

The drama is an adaptation of the diary of a Japanese girl named Aya Kito (木藤亜也 Kitō Aya?, July 19, 1962 - May 23, 1988), who suffered from spinocerebellar ataxia. She began keeping a diary at the suggestion of her doctor, and continued to write until she could no longer hold a pen. The diary, titled 1 Litre of Tears, was published shortly after her death. Info credits goes to Wikipedia

That's the only thing I can tell you though. I do recommend that you check it out for yourself, and hit me back again here if you like it or not ^^

Suju "fans" attack to girls: gone insane!!!

{ 02:36, 2007-Jul-31 } { Posted in opinion, thoughts, and pent up emotions } { 0 comments } { Link }
Woah.. I'm in a blogging frenzy mode here... lolz. But really I just want to say something about the recent incident where Super Junior fans, who call themselves "Elves" continuously attack girls who were linked to the SUJU boys.

First was the girl Lee Eun Ji who was harassed through Cyworld and cellphone messages for just posing with Kang-In in a picture. And these harassments led to a suicide. When I heard the news, I was like, "These fans shouldn't be called fans at all."

And now... recently, another girl is being attacked by these SUJU Elves again. This time, its figure skater Lee Yeon-Ah. The reason why she was attacked? Because she simply didn't approve Eeteuk's request to be her friend (or Ilchon) on Cyworld. And these elves started attacking the girl.

These girl, whom they proudly call themselves as SUJU fans, shouldn't be even called FANS at all. They are seriously ruining somebody else's life and family as well. And they don't stop until something bad will happen (an example would be the suicide).

All I can say is that these
Elves have no life at all. Grow up. They say karma goes back to you... and someday it will come back to haunt them. I just hope they realize their mistakes soon and not wait for another victim to fall to their traps.

Edit:
Okay... I just read the news just now after 30 minutes of posting this one. It says that figure skater Lee Yeon-Ah really did accepted Eeteuk in her Cyworld. Now I'm wondering. Who's telling the truth now? And why would Eeteuk do such a thing that would endanger the skater's life? So clueless...

Saying a late "congratutions" to Jolin Tsai

{ 12:18, 2007-Jul-31 } { Posted in Asian entertainment news } { 0 comments } { Link }
                              Jolin Tsai

I have always liked Jolin Tsai since I heard her "Lucky Number" song back in 2002. She's a few Taiwanese artists that I have come to grow to love and respect with. Not only is she popular and pretty, but she's talented as well.

That is why with this post, I would like to say a late congratulations to Jolin Tsai for bagging the Best Female Singer from Golden Melody Awards  which was held last month.

Once again... CONGRATS!!!!!!!

Akanishi and Rosa's brewing 'rumored' romance

{ 11:22, 2007-Jul-30 } { Posted in Asian entertainment news } { 0 comments } { Link }

This is a shocking news to all Akanishi Jin and Rosa fans.

It has been rumored that Kat-Tun singer Akanishi and actress Kato Rosa have been spotted having dinner together with friends in Mid-May. After that the singer drove the actress home and stayed at her apartment for 17 hours. After that incident, Akanishi became a regular visitor to the singer's home.

Does this mean this is the start of their beautiful romance? Will Rosa leave Tamaki Hiroshi for the young singer? Let's just hope for the best... for now.

50 Things YOU can learn from Korean dramas

{ 10:58, 2007-Jul-30 } { Posted in Dramas, Sitcoms, and Movies } { 1 comments } { Link }
Wow.. its been so long since I last updated here!!

So anyway, I found this article in Soompi forums and I would like to share it with you guys. If you are a fan of Korean dramas, then I'm sure you can relate to some stuff here.

Read on...

1) Hot, rich, younger men love fat, older vulgar women.

2) If you have a best guy friend, he is in love with you. And secretly you are too.

3) You and your boyfriend will always playfully chase each other on an ice rink, at the beach, or in the leaves. And you'll laugh for no reason and your boyfriend will hit you "playfully" but the force of his push will have you flying across the room. But it's okay. Cuz you're still laughing like a crazy person.

4) Brothers/cousin/uncles-newphews will always love the same girl.

5) You're allowed to make u-turns wherever you want in Korea. And there is never traffic on the side you want to u-turn to.

6) There is a super quick payment device that allows you to pay a bill quickly enough for a guy to run immediately out of a restaurant after his angry girlfriend storms out.

7) Everyone has cancer.

8) If you're sick, all you need is an IV to make you feel lots better.

9) There is vomit and urine all over Seoul at nights.

10) Fighting at a pojangmacha with a random stranger is merely part of a normal night's event.

11) Soju must cost 10 cents. Everyone drinks it everyday all the time, especially the poor people.
12) If you're rich, you're a jerk.

13) If you're poor, you're an angel.

14) Women sleep and wake up with a full set of makeup on.

15) You're not studying hard enough unless you get a nosebleed.

16) If you have a nosebleed, you most definitely have cancer. And you have no money to pay for the surgery that will save your life. And your liver is missing. We're not sure where it went, but it's making your cancer progress faster.

17) If you work in a sool jeep, you have massively curly hair and wear flashy colors from the early 90's.

18) You always order orange juice or coffee at a cafe. And you never drink it. EVER.< they drink almost as much as soju

19) You will always call your boyfriend by his job title. Or simply sunbaenim. Never his name. Never. He doesn't have one.

20) If you TRULY love each other, you must die together in the end. Frozen outside instead of finding shelter like sane people. Just frozen....

21) You go to America you come back miraculously successful. You go to England you come back amazingly fashionable. You stay in Korea the only thing that changes is your hairstyle.

22) And if you come back with no apparent reason then it's because you have cancer.

23) Everyone always goes to the same hospital no matter where they are.

24) If you stand out in the rain for more than five minutes, you'll end up with a fever and vertigo and people will rush you to the hospital to get some magic IV. And instead of taking an ambulance or driving they'll race you on their back.

25) Even if you're poor and can't eat, you never wear the same clothes twice.

26) If you play a poor kid, you always have dirt on your face and your hair is always messy.

27) If you're saving someone from being hit from a car, you'll push them out of the way and wait for the car to hit you instead. couldnt be more true, theyre like a deer in headlights

28) Everyone has a long lost sister/brother/twin. Usually one they didn't know about.

29) If you don't want to answer your phone, you can just turn it off. The battery
needs to be taken out.

30) All korean men can drink hard, smoke long, sing well and play piano. Usually all at the same time. And at the same restaurant that has a piano that they let anyone use.

31) If you're in a relationship, you must at one point leave and have your lover tearfully come RIGHT before you board the plane (vice versa applies as well. You can be the chaser). 60% of the time you see each other, the other 40% you're roaming around in circles and pass each other about six times, but miraculously never see them.

32) If you're getting off a plane, you're ALWAYS wearing sunglasses. ALWAYS.

33) All guys wear hideous tracksuits zipped up to their neck. Even if all they're doing is jump roping.

34) Girls will always storm off because they're mad and the guy will stoically grab them by the arm and swing them back- and by magic, not dislocate their shoulders.

35) Guys always look like they're 6 feet tall, even if they're only 5'10. Thank you camera angles.

36) Guys like to wear foundation, eyeliner and sometimes a smudge of lipliner.

37) You always get stuck in an elevator with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Even if there are six different elevators, you'll always be stuck in the same one with that bastard you hate (or just fought with).

38) Unless you're fabulously rich, your in-laws will always hate you

39) So will your sister-in-law.

40) Your brother-in-law might be pining away for you. >

41) There are only 2 ways to kiss. You either press your lips against theirs with your mouth completely shut, and just press away for a very long and uncomfortable time. OR you devour the other person and suck out their soul. In both instances, the world spins.

42) A guy will always get the right size ring, even if you're never held hands.

43) People stare off into space and ponder a lot. They'll just stop in the middle of the road and watch a leaf on a tree for a good three minutes, and just ponder.

44) You'll get pregnant the first time you have sex.

45) You'll get pregnant if he kisses you on the forehead.

46) Hell- you'll get pregnant if you hold hands.

47) If you overcome great obstacles to be together, one of you must die. Probably due to cancer.

48) One korean man can kick the butts of 6 gangstas. Especially when they all stand in a circle and attack the guy one by one. Then when each of them get their butts OWNED, they wise up and attack the guy at the same time. Then the guy will get pulverized and bleed out onto the dusty concrete floor of the empty warehouse they've found to fight in. There will be a fire in a trashcan somewhere. And the girl will have watched this the entire time, screaming in horror. Instead of calling 119, she'll just watch and cry. But it's okay. Cuz the next day the guy will be fine with a few random bandages and a few face scars. But never a black eye.

49) It ain't a real fight unless the gangstas fight dirty with a stick or switchblade.

50) If you study in the states (preferably Harvard), you are one of the top students and can speak perfect English (as assumed by the reactions of those around you). Why the rest of the world OUTSIDE of the TV can't understand a single word uttered out of your melodramatic mouth is beyond me.

LOL!!!!

OJ's comeback with a single album

{ 11:11, 2007-Jul-8 } { Posted in Korean music } { 0 comments } { Link }

If you guys didn't know, former Click-B member Oh Jong Hyuk was... or still is my favorite K-pop idol. When I first got into the Kpop world, the group Click-B was the first Korean group that I listen to, and I got hooked with them. And out of the 7 (yes.. they are 7-band member) members, it was JongHyuk, whom I fondly called Jjong, is my favorite. Too bad though that 3 or 4 of their members left, and the rest had to cope up with themselves.

Although times have changed for Click-B... but JongHyuk  and his two other band mates are still hanging strong. Most of them pursued solo projects (and so with this other ex-Click-B member), but the three still gave us fans hope that they'll make a comeback, which I hope will come true.

As of this year, Jjong has released his first single album, a tempo ballad called 사랑이그래요 (Love is like that). What makes this album special is that singer/songwriter The  Name, together with Brown-Eyed Soul's Sung Hoon composed this piece; while singer Wheesung wrote the lyrics.

OJH's album

For the music video, Jjong plays the character of a guy who has experienced painful love and separation, and he wants to fully erase all the memories with a break-up. The MV was sad and touching, and you can see that Jjong has a potential for acting.

Mmm.. maybe he should also do have an acting career as well?? That would boost his popularity in Korea once more. But whatever thing he does, I'll still support him all the way.

Voice audition for Sagashite-Ateru cancelled

{ 08:54, 2007-Jul-5 } { Posted in opinion, thoughts, and pent up emotions } { 0 comments } { Link }
Remember the one I posted two months ago about my voice-over audition? Well sad to say, the crew canceled the audition for us non-Asians. The promoter, which was a co-member of mine at MAtsuJun Philippines forum, said that he left the project because he just found out he wouldn't be credited after all his hard work. That kinda sucks for Jaro-chan, ne??

But anyway, I'm not really disappointed or anything. But i do feel bad for Jaro-chan. He worked so hard for the project... and he even got to sleep very late at nights because of site updates and stuff. I'm glad though he backed out the moment he knew about him not getting credited.

I bid good luck to Jaro-chan... and to that movie as well. Still looking forward to see it, if it reaches here in my country.

According to Daisuke, the band's guitarist and the composer of the said single, that people think about many things at midnight before they sleep.
Acid's new album: Pray for the Future

The band is also trying to convey a message to their fans through this album. This is what bassist Yuta

said in an interview:
"Even in Japan, there are many tragic incidents around us. From global warming, to crimes, child abuse, bullying, and suicide, I think about all of them and feel bad these days. I don’t force it but our messages are ‘PRAY’, our hopes and wishes are in the lyrics. Each song has its own theme, but the consistent theme is ‘PRAY’. The word ‘PRAY’ has various meaning, such as “I want to be like this," “I hope like this," "I hope for some other person," and "Please help me, my God!" Everyone has these experiences, I think. We decided on a theme of ‘PRAY FOR THE FUTURE'. "

Rain delays US Concert; faces lawsuit over his " name"

{ 06:55, 2007-Jun-21 } { Posted in Korean music } { 0 comments } { Link }

This is really a bad news for all US Rain fans.

It seems that Bi... or Rain (his English stage name) won't make it to the US to hold his concert due to problems regarding having the same name with Rain Corporation, a music company.

The company claimed over the copyrights of the name "Rain" and sued not only the singer, but JYP Entertainment, Ltd., and concert organizer Star M Entertainment over the use of the name "Rain". The lawsuit was filed last February 16
at the Nevada district court in Reno.

According to the company, they had sole rights to the name since they had formed a tribute band in honor of the Beatles, the British pop rock icon.

Since then, the singer's promotional posters has been changed to "Ji-Hoon's World Tour 2007." As of the moment, Rain or his agency did not give a statement whether to continue his U.S concert tour.

Too bad for Rain... err... I meant Bi. But it would have been nice though if he uses his Korean stage name Bi instead of the name "Rain." It still wouldn't make a difference though.

Se7en and Amerie collab: finally out!

{ 10:09, 2007-Jun-13 } { Posted in Asian entertainment news } { 0 comments } { Link }

Finally!! After waiting for months and months, the colaboration single of both African-American-Korean singer Amerie and Korean R&B singer Se7en, is released.

At first, I thought it was just a rumor that Se7en was gonna do a collaboration with Amerie. But after how many months have passed, many K-pop fans, including myself, were a bit hopeless about it. Now, I'm glad (and I bet the rest of them Se7en fans too) that he and Amerie made a single. Seriously though, I'm so behind in the news!!! (Wanna wack my head for this....)

Although Amerie already released her single "Take Control", but that same song was still used for the collaboration. Sadly though, the collab single won't be released in the US; its only for the Asian market.

Oh well... so much of dreaming about Se7en making it on the US market. But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that he'll make it through the US industry soon.

For now, let's just enjoy Se7en's fame to Asia... and support Amerie and Se7en's new single. If you want to hear the single, then listen to it here.

The totally cool Super Junior: making waves into the K-pop world

{ 11:23, 2007-Jun-10 } { Posted in Korean music } { 1 comments } { Link }
This K-pop group debuted as 12-member group in late Nov. 2005

I remember after a year on being hiatus on the kpop scene, I started listening to it again. But I was so surprised with so many changes: new singers have emerged; old groups have broken up, some became one hit wonders while some had made it to the top.

But the most Korean group that made a big impression of me was this 12... or should I say, 13-member group Super Junior.

At first, I was a bit perplexed and confused by then12-member group. I was like, "What's a 12-guy group doing in that cramped stage?" It seemed like they don't even need back dancers anymore. But something in them intrigued me, since I saw this one member of them who was scouted all the way from Mainland China.

As I listened to their first single, it got me hooked. Soon, I began to research about the group, memorized their names (it took me three days to figure out which is which), watched their clips, and got their first album. Weeks after that, I became one of their biggest fans.
The present 13-member group Super Junior

As of the present, they're now a 13-member group, since one was added after they became a major hit. They landed in top charts not only in Korea, but in abroad as well, such as Thailand, China, and Japan.

Two years of getting into the spotlight, I'm glad they all finally get the big break they deserve. They sure had a lot of hardships (for being criticized and ridiculed), but that didn't stop them from going to the top.

Poster for the upcoming movie

I was checking and at the same time, moderating a Matsumoto Jun Philippines forum when I came across a post about auditions for an upcoming Japanese indie movie project. It was surprising at first on why he had to post it on a forum where none of us members never even made it to the Japan, except for one, of course (the one who posted the announcement!).

The title of the upcoming movie project is Sagashite-Ateru, which literally translates as "To Seek, To Find." This is really interesting since this movie has a mixed race of characters: Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino. Ain't that cool, huh?

Since I was interested in doing the voice act, I might as well audition for it. So I recorded a voice clip of mine and read a Japanese script that was given already, and sent it to them. For now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get in :)

FTTS member Hwahee reveals he went under the knife

Fly to the Sky duo member: Hwanhee

Truth unfolds... it seemed that Korean singer Hwanhee's rumored nose job and eye surgery was indeed true after all!

It was reported from a Korean website news that Hwanhee did go under the knife - and had his nose altered.

As of the moment, fans have mixed feelings about the singer opening up about him getting a "under the knife". Some say that his old look was better, others felt that if Hwanhee wanted to do it to uplift his image, then they respect his decision.

Other fans said they are very proud that the singer was being a man and he admitted it himself in the public. It really showed that he was very sincere to the fans and felt he owed it to them to tell the truth.

Well, I guess I give Hwanhee some credit for admitting it to the public. It took him guts and enough courage to say "I went on a surgery" in front of the public. And I do admit, he looks damn hot too! *Ahem* but not as good looking than Brian (hey, I'm a big fan of Brian!)

What can I say? I'm such a sucker for hot, gorgeous, handsome Korean men!!!
